2. How many characters do you have? Do you prefer males or females?
In my current project, Twixt? Around fifty or so. In all of my writing career? Thousands? I've written many, many novels since I was twelve (when I started), and there are many stories in my heart and head. :) I was all like: I'll try to give an exact number! Then I was like: um, no, never mind. XD
I significantly prefer female over male. In my younger writing years, it was almost entire female. I would joke and say the two or three primary males I added were my "token guys." Now, I have a much better balanced perspective, and try to do it as evenly as possible, but I definitely prefer writing female over male, an admitted flaw of mine.
In all of my writing, I've only ever written one or two novels entirely from a male perspective. I did enjoy those, and I still like to try short stories or novellas from a male protaganist point of view, because I think it stretches me and helps me grow as a writer. If I only ever write about girls, I feel I'll stagnate.
Most of the primary relationships in my novels are lesbian, if there's a relationship. I've written straight romances before, but it's not my favorite.
I'm very, very aware of the stereotype given to many YA authors--that they write the straight girl lead and the gay guy best friend. I refuse to ever do such a thing. ;)
