She does exquisite, jaw dropping work, and I am OVER THE MOON that she is going to be the one to illustrate my VERY FIRST COVER!!! Holy crap, it's the most amazing thing in the world~
However, my sister is graduating this semester from college (summa cum laude!!!), and is up to her eyeballs in work (poor thing. I think her level of joy in life is going to go WAY THE HECK UP when she graduates :P). My tentative release date for The Dark Wife is mid May, and the painting that I will use for the cover will probably be finished much closer to the deadline than it normally would be because of all the school work heaped on top of her.
I needed a placeholder on The Dark Wife's Goodreads of a cover, and I needed something on my writing site about it, and I couldn't use the mock cover I'd thrown together because it used a copyrighted image. SO. I created a cover that technically could be used on the eBook and printed versions of the novel (and if my sister's painting isn't done in time, I might have to use this to start).
One of my favorite artists in the world is William Bouguereau--we have a MASSIVE painting of his "Psyche et L'Amour" hanging in our bedroom. I'd been toying with the idea of using a classical painting anyway to begin with (before my sister was absolutely awesome), and I'd known which one I wanted to use, which really fit my novel (and even a particular scene in my novel). Hence, I used "Biblis" to start, edited the hell out of it and: VOILA. COVER. :D
I feel like I should make a flourish with sparkles and glitter. Imagine me doing just that:
In other news, Jenn was incredibly sick all night long (unrelated to the flu she had--this was of the most terrible stomach upset, TMI variety ;-;)--if you can spare good thoughts and soothing, healing vibes to her, that would be wonderful. I've been fretting all day, and can't wait to go home and take care of her. :/
