We rescued our beloved cat, Shiva, from the cat shelter that we'd volunteered at for a few months, two years ago. We knew, upon adopting him, that he was ancient, but we had a deep connection and fell in love instantly, and Jenn and I both agreed and knew that no matter how much time we would get with him, we'd love him with all of our hearts, and that's all that mattered. We knew that, because of his age, he could truly go at any time. We had to make ourselves okay with that fact. And to a degree, we did.
But we loved that beautiful, funny, loud, talkative, wide-eyed, cuddly, amazing cat with all of our hearts. And you can never truly be prepared to lose something you've loved so deeply, so much...forever.
Shiva has passed away. It was peaceful--we surrounded him and kept vigil.
Jenn and I are devastated beyond words. He was so small, so fragile, and we loved him so fiercely.
I wish I had something prettier to say. I have no words left. I poured them out into him, weeping. Most of them were "love."
